"Lumps and bumps' include fatty tumors (lipomas) and sebaceous cysts. A sebaceous cyst is a nest of skin debris that collects under the skin. A sebaceous cyst can become infected requiring drainage. lipomas and sebaceous cysts can occur anywhere in the body. Treatment depends on size, symptoms, and cosmesis. Large lipomas run the risk of malignant change so you will need attention to the tumor. A needle or "tru cut" biopsy with local anesthetic may be necessary for large tumors to rule out malignancy. Contact my office so we can assist you with your concerns on this issue.

Lipomas and sebaceous cysts are removed under local anesthetic. Recovery is usually one to two days. The procedures can be done in my office or surgery center usually depending on the size. Pain control usually consists of over-the-counter analgesics such as Advil or Tylenol. Contact my office if you have any questions regarding this matter.
